Analysis and Report is the new section of IdSurvey for the interviews’ analysis and the report creation.

Analysis and Report has an easy-to-use interface, but also offers countless tools and combinations for the customization of your report.

Analysis and Report come at no additional cost; however, to unlock features such as custom page creation, export, and link sharing, you will need to purchase the Analysis Plus license. More details can be found in the last paragraph of this article.

The user interface #

Index of the report #

On the left side of the screen you can find the report index consisting of the list of questions and any custom pages. By clicking on any element of the index, the page with the relative title, visualization (graphs, tables and lists) and notes is displayed on the right.

Standard pages #

Analysis and Report compiles the index of the report with all questions in sequence.
Each question has its standard page.
The list of standard pages cannot be changed, however, it is possible to exclude unnecessary pages from the report by turning off the corresponding switch.
Each standard page can contain more visualization tiles (data representation) but all referred to the same question.

Note:

To disable all questions click on the gear menu and choose Hide all, to restore them select Show all.

Custom pages #

available only with Analysis Plus

Custom pages allow you to create a customized report, ignoring the standard sequence of questions. In the index, the custom pages are placed before the standard ones to keep the latter always in their original sequence.
Each custom page can contain multiple visualization tiles (data representations) – and unlike standard pages – even different questions.

Create a new custom page
To create a new custom page, simply click on the “+” button in the top left menu.

Clone a page
Alternatively, you can create a custom page by duplicating any other page (standard or custom). Select the source page, then move the mouse pointer to the blue band on the left. Click the clone icon of the menu.

Delete a custom page
To permanently delete a custom page, select it then move the mouse pointer over the blue band on the left. Click the trash icon of the menu.

Move a custom page
You can change the order of the custom pages. Custom pages are always placed before the standard pages (which are fixed). To move a custom page, click on the icon , drag the page in the desired position and release the mouse button.

Note:

To create a fully customized report that does not follow the original order of the questions, it is advisable to disable all standard pages and create the report with custom pages only.

Search for a page
You can filter the pages to be displayed in the index by typing in the code or part of the question text.

Tiles #

Title #

The Title tile is the first tile placed on each page. By default it contains the text of the question. The user can edit the text or hide the entire tile by clicking on the delete icon at the top right of the tile.
To restore the deleted tile, just click on the Add title button at the bottom of the page.

Visualization #

Visualization tiles can be configured to show graphs, tables, and lists based on the answers to the question. You can add multiple Visualization tiles per page.
This type of tile is the most relevant part of Analysis and Report and allows for endless customization. All the features are explained in depth below.

Export a visualization tile
To export a tile with a graph, table or statistics it is necessary to click on the button at the top right.

The following formats are available:

PDF
PowerPoint (from IdSurvey 8.3)
PNG e PNG with transparent background
Jpeg
Excel (for tables, lists and statistics only)

Note #

Note tiles can contain formatted text and images. Using the editor, you can customize and add content to the pages.
Multiple Note tiles can be added to each page.

Add a new tile
To add a note or a visualization tile, simply click the corresponding button at the bottom of the page.

Note:

Each page can contain only one title. The Add title button is available only if the title tile is not present on the page.

Clone a tile
Alternatively you can create new note or data visualization tiles by duplicating an existing one. To duplicate a tile, simply click on the clone icon at the top right.
The new tile will be created below the original one.
This solution is extremely useful when you want to create a new visualization with similar settings to an existing one.

Move a tile
You can move the Note and Visualization tiles anywhere in the page. To move a tile just click and hold on the drag icon at the top left, move the tile to the desired position and then release the mouse button.

Views #

The Analysis and Report view system is the tool to create, edit and save reports.

From the views button you can access the saved reports and the default view.
The default view is a special self-configured report consisting of charts, tables, statistics and lists for each question in the questionnaire. Each tile is automatically set according to the type of question analyzed. The default report is the starting point to easily create customized reports or to quickly check the results.
Any changes you make are stored in a temporary “View not saved” view.
When you access Analysis and Report, IdSurvey loads the last view (or temporary view) you consulted in the previous session.

Create a new report
To create a new report start from the default view or any other existing view.
After any editing, “View not saved” is shown.
Press “Save as…” then enter the name, select Team View or Private View type, then click OK.

Edit an existing report
There are two methods to edit an existing report:

Option A
Load the desired view and make any necessary customizations.
Press “Save…” then choose “Overwrite…” to overwrite the starting view.

Option B
Click on the wrench icon in the views list to enter the edit mode. Make the necessary customizations then click “Save”.

Note:

You cannot overwrite views created by other users. The overwrite option or the tools icon are only available in views created by you. You can still load a report created by another user, make the changes, and then save it as a new view.

Delete report
Click on the wrench icon in the views list to enter edit mode, then click “Delete”.

Note:

You cannot delete views created by other users. The wrench icon and “delete” option are only available in views created by you.

Tools #

Report Palette #

This menu allows you to choose the default colors for the report charts. You can choose the desired palette from the drop-down list and then select the main color. All charts that have not been customized with specific colors use the report palette.

Report Breakout #

This allows you to break down the entire report by a specific question or field. Each chart, table or list will show the data broken down by the values of the selected field or by the answer choices of the selected question. A classic example of the breakout is to break down all charts and table data by age group or gender.

Note:

A specific breakout can be set in each tile of a chart, table or list. If “Report default” is set in the tile, the general breakout (Report breakout) will be applied. If “None” is set in the tile, no breakout will be applied.

Sharing and Export #

available only with Analysis Plus

You can export the report to PDF and PowerPoint (from IdSurvey 8.3) or share the report online with a link.

Note:

The default view and unsaved views cannot be shared. To share a link of the report, you have to save the view first.

Set a Visualization tile #

Data representation tiles offer a wide variety of chart types, tables, lists and options.
Each configuration can be done from the menu at the top left of the tile.

Data source #

Data source is the source of the data to be represented in the chart or table of the tile.
This menu allows you to choose the question to be analyzed.

Select a question as data source
You can choose the question to analyze from the first dropdown Question. In the standard pages the Question dropdown is locked and set by default. This dropdown can be edited only in the custom pages.

From the Options dropdown you can choose whether to analyze the set of answer choices or a specific open-ended answer.

Note:

IdSurvey also treats rating, slider, multimedia questions as open ended answers. For example, to analyze the average grade of a rating question, you must select the open ended from the list.

If a matrix question is selected in the Question drop-down list, you can choose to analyze All the rows, a single row, or a specific open-ended answer.

If a 3D matrix question is selected, an additional 3D Matrix column dropdown appears, allowing you to select the column to analyze.

Note:

Analysis and Report does not allow you to analyze the entire 3D matrix in a single tile. You have to create a tile for each column of the 3D matrix.

Select options
The select options button allows you to exclude specific options from the data source.
For example, if you want to ignore how many people selected the “other specify” option, simply turn on the Select option feature and uncheck the “Other specify” option from the list.

Breakout #

It allows you to cross-tabulate (break down) the source question (data source) with another question or contact field. The chart, table or list will show the data split by the field values or answer choices of the selected question.
A common use of the breakout is to break down a chart by age group.

Note:

If Report Breakout is set but a specific breakout is set in the tile, the Report Breakout is ignored.
If Report Breakout is set but “None” is set in the tile, the Report Breakout is ignored.

Settings #

The tile settings menu allows you to choose and configure the data representation.
The following types of representation are available:

Bar graph
Line graph
Pie chart
Stackbar (stacked bars)
Gauge graph
Word Cloud
Statistics
Table
List

Each type of chart, table, or list provides a variety of metrics and options.

Note:

Some representation types may not be available for certain data source. For example, WordCloud is only available for open-ended analysis and the Gauge chart is not available for multiple-choice questions.

Metrics #

The metric determines how the data should be interpreted in the graph.
The metrics selector is only available where applicable: bar, line, gauge and table. Pie and stackbar charts always use the Percentage of Choices metric and cannot be changed.

List of the metrics

Mean
It shows the code-based average of the answers analyzed.

Min (minimum)
It shows the lowest value based on the answer code of the question analyzed.

Max (maximum)
It shows the highest value based on the answer code of the question analyzed.

Net Promoter Score (NPS)
It is a special metric for representing the NPS score.

Note:

Net Promoter Score is a well-known standard in the world of market research for evaluating customer loyalty.
The data is collected with a special question where you ask how likely (from 0 to 10) you are to recommend a certain product or brand to other people.
The NPS score can range from -100 to 100 and is calculated by subtracting the percentage of detractors (votes less than or equal to 6) from the percentage of promoters (votes greater than or equal to 9).

Response Count
It shows the number of respondents who answered the question, regardless of the number of options selected.

Choice Count
It shows the number of selection for each answer choice in the question.

Sum
It shows the sum of the values based on the answer code of the analyzed question.

Percentage o Percentage of Choices
It shows the percentage of choices made for each answer in the question.

Percentage of Responses
It shows the percentage of respondents who selected each answer in the question.

Graphs, statistics, lists and tables options #

Bar graph

Sort
It allows you to choose the sorting of the bars between automatic, ascending or descending. The Sort option is only available for data sources with a single data set (simple questions without the breakout).

Category axis
It allows you to show or hide the axis of the categories and their labels.

Label direction
It allows you to change the orientation of the categories axis labels between horizontal, vertical and diagonal. This option is only available if the categories in the horizontal axis are set (Invert chart option disabled).

Cut labels
It allows you to define a maximum number of characters for the labels of the category axis.

Value axis
It allows to show or hide the value axis.

Show values
If activated, it shows the values in each bar of the graph.

Show decimals
It allows to define the number of decimals to be shown in the bars values.

Stackbar
It arranges the bars from each set in a stack.

Normalize percentage
Only available for data sources consisting of multiple series (matrix questions or with a breakout set). It normalizes the bars representation by considering the sum of the values of each individual series as 100%. The length of the bars of each series is then calculated independently from that of the other series in the graph.

Show legend
If activated, it shows the legend of the categories. From the drop-down menu you can choose the position of the legend: at the bottom, on the right or inside the chart.

Invert chart
It rotates the chart 90 degrees by arranging the bars horizontally instead of in columns.

Transpose
It allows to invert the interpretation of the data source series: columns as series or rows as series.

Lines graph

Category axis
It allows you to show or hide the axis of the categories and their labels.

Cut labels
It allows you to define a maximum number of characters for the labels of the category axis.

Value axis
It allows to show or hide the value axis.

Show values
If activated, it shows the values at each line connection point.

Show decimals
It allows to define the number of decimals to be shown in the graph values.

Normalize percentage
Only available for data sources consisting of multiple series (matrix questions or with a breakout set). It normalizes the representation of the lines by considering the sum of the values of each individual series as 100%. The height of the lines of each series is then calculated independently from those of the other series in the graph.

Show area
It shows the lower area of each line in the graph.

Rounded lines
It connects points on the graph with curved lines instead of straight lines.

Show legend
If activated, it shows the legend of the categories. From the drop-down menu you can choose the position of the legend: at the bottom, on the right or inside the chart.

Transpose
It allows to invert the interpretation of the data source series: columns as series or rows as series.

Pie or donut graph

Show pie title
It shows the title of the pie (series name).

Cut labels
It allows you to define a maximum number of characters for the labels of the category axis.

Show values
If activated, it shows the values at each line connection point. From the drop-down menu you can choose whether to show absolute values (number of responses), percentage or both.

Show decimals
It allows to define the number of decimals to be shown in the graph values.

Show labels
It shows the labels of the categories.

Inner radius
It allows you to change the width of the donut or – if disabled – to represent the graph as a pie.

Group values
It allows you to group the smallest values of the chosen percentage in a single section called “Others” in gray.

Show legend
If activated, it shows the legend of the categories.

Transpose
It allows to invert the interpretation of the data source series: columns as series or rows as series.

Stackbar graph

Show stackbar title
It shows the title of the bar (series name).

Cut labels
It allows you to define a maximum number of characters for the labels of the category axis

Show values
If activated, it shows the values within each section of the bar. From the drop-down menu you can choose whether to show absolute values (number of responses), percentage or both.

Show decimals
It allows to define the number of decimals to be shown in the graph values.

Show labels
It shows category labels within each section of the chart.

Show legend
If activated, it shows the category legend.

Transpose
It allows to invert the interpretation of the data source series: columns as series or rows as series.

Gauge graph

Show gauge title
It shows the gauge title (series name).

Show decimals
It allows to define the number of decimals to be shown in the graph values.

Word cloud

Show cloud title
It shows the title of the chart (usually the label of the open-ended answer).

Analyze sentences
If activated, each open answer is represented in full, regardless of word count. Conversely, if disabled, each individual word is counted and represented independently.

Disposition
It allows you to choose the orientation of the words (or phrases) between horizontal, vertical or both.

Number of words
It allows you to select the maximum number of words (or phrases) to be represented in the graph, excluding the less relevant ones.

Exclude words
It allows you to set the words to be excluded from the representation, such as articles and conjunctions. This function is only available when analyzing single words (Analyze sentences disabled).

List

It shows the list of open-ended answers given by respondents.

Show list title
It shows the title of the list (usually the label of the open-ended answer).

Table

Show row number
It shows a sequential number for each row in the table.

Extra data
If activated, it displays the show total and show percentage options.
If more than one series of data is analyzed (matrix question or question with an active breakout), a dropdown is displayed to choose whether to consider totals and percentages per row or per column.

Transpose
It allows to invert the interpretation of the data source series: columns as series or rows as series.

Statistics

Invert
It rotates the representation by placing the statistics vertically instead of horizontally.

Column
You can choose the desired metrics to show in the table:

Layout #

The Layout menu allows you to customize the texts, colors or hide objects on the tile.

To customize the text of an object, enter the custom text on its input box. To restore the default text delete the customized text.

Tile titles
The Main title corresponds to the text of the question being analyzed. If an open-ended answer is analyzed, the answer choice label, if any, is also available as subtitle.
The switch button next to the input box allows you to show or hide the title from the card.

Palette
It allows you to choose the color palette of the tile graph.
You can also set the main color by clicking one of the available colors in the selected palette.
If you selected the gauge chart, you can define the thresholds and their colors in this area.

Series layout
This section can vary and it is named according to the type of chart, transpose and eventual breakout.
For each series there is an input box to customize the text and a switch to exclude it from the representation.

Values layout
This section can vary and it is named according to the chart type, transpose and eventual breakout.
For each value there is an input box that allows you to customize the text, a color picker to define a specific color and a switch to hide the value from the representation.
Please note that in bar, line, statistic and list representations, any percentages are not recalculated when you hide one or more values (it takes into account the hidden values too). Pie and stackbar charts, by their nature, normalize percentages so that the total shown always corresponds to 100%.
